Open Barn: Meet the Herd

Come meet the horses. That is the whole event.
Four times a year we open the barn to anyone who wants to walk through it. You meet the herd, you hear how each of the rescued horses got here, and you see the places where our veteran and youth programs actually happen. It takes an hour.
There is no pitch. If you leave wanting to volunteer, donate, or sign a young person up, we will tell you exactly how. If you leave having petted a horse and nothing else, that is a good outcome too.

What Happens
- Meet the herd and put your hands on a horse
- Hear how the rescued horses arrived and what it took to bring them back
- Walk the barn, the arena, and the yard
- See where the veteran mornings and the youth Barn Crew afternoons happen
- Ask anything you want about the Foundation, the programs, or the horses
Bringing Children
Families are welcome and children of any age can come. A few ground rules keep everyone safe around animals this size.
- Children stay with their adult the whole time
- No running, no shouting, and no approaching a horse without a staff member
- Closed-toe shoes for everyone, including the kids
- There is no riding at Open Barn
Before You Come
- Quarterly, first Monday, 3:00pm to 4:00pm
- Ocean View Stables, 2152 Olympic Way, Daly City, California
- Free parking on site
- Closed-toe shoes. Boots, sneakers, anything but sandals.
- A layer, because it is cooler here than in the city
- No horse experience needed

Stay for the Barn Crew
Open Barn finishes at 4:00pm. On most of these dates our youth Barn Crew starts right as we wrap up, so if you would rather see a program in motion than hear about it, hang back a few minutes and watch the crew get to work. We will let you know on the day whether a session is running.
