Coffee and Horsemanship for Veterans

Coffee, other veterans, and horses. That is the whole idea.
Twice a month we open the barn to veterans for a couple of hours in the morning. There is coffee on, there are horses to be around, and there are other people who have worn the uniform. You can be as involved as you want to be. Some people groom a horse the whole time. Some people learn the technical side of horsemanship from the rail. Some people drink coffee and talk to another vet and never touch a horse at all. All three are the right answer.
There is no riding at these sessions, no cost, and no commitment. Come once. Come every time. Bring someone who would not come on their own.

What Happens
- Coffee and a place to sit
- Groom and handle horses with a staff member alongside you
- Learn horsemanship technique: reading a horse, groundwork, why a horse does what it does
- Watch a session from the rail if that is more your speed
- Walk the property, meet the herd, and talk to other veterans

Before You Come
- Any branch, any era, any length of service. Guard and Reserve included.
- No horse experience needed and none expected
- Wear closed-toe shoes. Boots are ideal, sneakers are fine, sandals are not.
- Dress in layers. The coastal fog burns off late and the barn stays cool.
- Bring a friend or a fellow vet. You do not have to come alone.
Why We Do This
Veterans have always ridden free at Ocean View Stables. This is that same open door, on a schedule, with coffee and company built in. Horses do not ask questions and they do not need the story. For a lot of people that is exactly the point.
