We are building a founding board, and we would rather you meet us before you decide.
A board application tells you almost nothing about what you would be signing up for. So this is an evening at the barn with the people actually building this: what the Foundation is, what it is not yet, where the money stands, and what we would genuinely need from a director in the first two years.
Coming is not applying. Plenty of people who show up will conclude a board seat is not the right fit, and some of those people will be exactly right for a pro bono project instead. Both are useful outcomes for everyone.

What We Will Cover
- Why the Foundation exists and what it is trying to be in five years
- Where we actually are: 501(c)(3) determination in hand, registered with the California Attorney General's Registry of Charities and Fundraisers, and programs launching this October
- The finances as they stand today, told straight
- What a director is on the hook for: governance, fiduciary duty, and the giving expectation
- The committees we need staffed first
- The appointment process and how long it takes
Who We Are Looking For
Five unpaid seats. We especially need one of these behind a name:
- Nonprofit governance and 501(c)(3) compliance
- Accounting, audit, or CFO-level oversight
- Nonprofit or equine law
- Fundraising and major gifts
- Veteran services
- Youth services, education, or child safety
- Equine welfare, rescue, or therapeutic riding
You do not need all of them. You need one, and the judgment to know where your expertise ends.
The Evening
- 4:00pm to 6:00pm, informal, at the barn
- Ocean View Stables, 2152 Olympic Way, Daly City, California
- Small on purpose, so it stays a conversation
- Dress for a working stable and wear closed-toe shoes
- Meet the horses while you are here. They are the reason for all of it.
Board seats are unpaid
Bring the Hard Questions
Ask us about the relationship between the Foundation and Ocean View Stables, about what happens if fundraising falls short, about liability, about who is really running this day to day. A board candidate who does not ask those things is not the board candidate we need.
