Ninety minutes to decide whether you would send a young person here.

Barn Crew is a free program for young people: real barn work, real horses, and horsemanship instruction, twice a month. It is aimed squarely at the kids who do not usually get offered something like this. But no counselor, teacher, or case manager should refer a child to a place they have never seen.

So come see it. We hold this session at 4:30pm on purpose, because that is the same hour a Barn Crew afternoon is running. You will see the barn as the young people see it, not a cleaned-up version of it.

What You Will See

  • The barn, the arena, and the yard where the work happens
  • A walkthrough of an actual Barn Crew afternoon, start to finish
  • The horses the young people work with, including the rescues and how each one arrived
  • How we set up supervision and where the adults stand
  • The parking and drop-off situation for a van or a small bus

The Questions You Have to Ask

We would rather answer these standing in the barn than over email. Come with the hard ones.

  • Supervision ratios and who is watching which group
  • Insurance, waivers, and the paperwork a parent has to sign
  • How our staff and volunteers are screened
  • What happens when a young person is frightened of a horse, and what happens when one is overconfident
  • Accessibility and what we can accommodate
  • Group size, and how we split a class across two dates

Barn Crew is free. It costs a school, a family, or an agency nothing. There is no catch and there is nothing to sell you.
